В Соединённых Штатах Америки состоялись президентские выборы. На них – неожиданно для многих (но от этого не менее закономерно) – победил республиканец Дональд Трамп. И не просто победил, а привёл к победе всю свою партию, которая «взяла под контроль» обе палаты Конгресса, большую часть штатов и органов местного самоуправления. Такой блестящей политической ситуации, как верно отметила консервативный политолог Энн Коултер, у республиканцев не было с 1928 года.
В рамках этой работы мы попробуем проанализировать, какие социальные слои, группы, «страты» привели к победе эксцентричного миллиардера-магната. В этом нам помогут материалы экзит-поллов, опубликованные сразу после окончания президентских выборов 8/9 ноября.

Есть такое свойство у людей, чьи желания превосходят их возможности - надеяться. Провожая 2015-й год, Дебальцево, убийство оппозиционного политика Бориса Немцова и начала кампании в Сирии, люди надеялись. Кто-то надеялся на западные санкции, как элемент давления на «кровавый режим», кто-то надеялся на выборы в Государственную Думу, как на предполагаемый катализатор политической активности и предполагал, что всё это перерастёт в реальное сопротивление заранее приготовленным властями результатам. Третьи надеялись на то, что фактор международного терроризма приведёт к ослаблению противостояния с Западом, следствием чего предполагалась либерализация общественной жизни в России. Другие надеялись на нанесение решительных ударов по исламскому терроризму для того, чтобы не допустить в Европе повторения «Парижа-2015».

François Fillon. Defeatism and Resolve
One piece about François Fillon, the nominee of “the right and centre” for the 2017 French presidential election, has already been published in the European Russians. It focused on his personality and main points of his project. This one explores the context and implications of his proposals regarding foreign policy and the threat of “Islamic totalitarianism”.
Even communities of people with the most legitimate claims to moral high ground by and large let themselves be deceived by basic intellectual fallacies. Russian liberals are not an exception: they relish Barack Obama’s words as he tries to justify his failed foreign policy of inconsequential action by painting Russia as a weak regional power in international isolation. What they forget is that a problem cannot be solved unless it is recognized. Denial of Putin’s danger to the free world has already cost Western countries a lack of serious policy of deterrence and, consequently, further emboldenment of Putin’s regime.

Реакция значимой части российской интеллигенции на новость о намерении Алексея Навального участвовать в выборах президента России в очередной раз обнажила ее застарелые язвы. Это приоритет личных интересов над декларируемыми общественными, россыпь местечковых обид, одержимость внутривидовой конкуренцией, зависть, порой переходящая в (не побоюсь этого слова) жлобство, чванливое самодовольство и самодовольное чванство, склонность к избыточной, демонстративной интеллектуализации, фокус на незначительных, но «медийных» деталях, и, тут же, – игнорирование аспектов действительно важных, однако лишенных помпы громкого заголовка.
Мы видели многое: профессиональную и профанскую критику программы Навального, «каверзные» вопросы ехидного Венедиктова, презрительно сморщенную гримасу рукопожатных диссидентов, пространные рассуждения в излюбленном стиле фейсбучных завсегдатаев а-ля «Я хорошо отношусь к Алексею Анатольевичу, но...»;

Latvian school for the creators of new Ukraine
The political course of the modern Ukrainian nation is very evident: cooperation with NATO and the EU, the reformation of the political, social and economic state of Ukraine to become in line with European standards and norms. Such actions can be and should be praised, however by praising and providing feasible help the quintessential question should not be forgotten: What does the Ukrainian society require to overcome post-soviet realities and enter the path for a fully functional and European development? This requires a systematical solution. If this solution is not found then no reformations, no diplomatic assistance, no sympathy from the EU, no humanitarian aid or favorable credit terms will be able to change the situation.
Possibly the delegates from the Ukrainian city Nikolaev on visiting Liepaja and Riga on the 26th to 29th of September could facilitate in the search of an answer to the question stated above. Does this sound excessively ambitious? Possibly ambitious, but not excessively. Well, at least from our perspective.

Moral victory of the Russian right wing opposition
In December of 2016 a very important event occurred for the author of this article: the authorities of Republic of Latvia have granted me political asylum. The whole process of receiving it was not accomplished right away, it took more than a year due to consideration and scrutiny, but it was accepted. However, I would not bother readers with this subject again, if it concerned exclusively and only me. Nevertheless, to the delight of some and the sorrow of others, the situation is more serious: the decision of the Latvian authorities is also unquestionable moral victory for Russian right-wing opposition, that is leading the fight against Putin's tyranny within the Russian Federation and abroad.
It is no secret that in Russia for a long time certain political forces try to privatize the concept of "opposition", though rather unsuccessfully. What are these forces? It is not easy to understand their ideological alignment at first glance, especially for an outside observer. In the sense of historical continuity, they are spiritual and genetic heirs of Soviet opposition Marxists and sovietesque liberals. To cut a long story short, they are kids of “creative intellectuals" coming from Arbat alleys and grandchildren of old-school commissars.
