Optimization and Scheduling Algorithm Scientist
“System Programming Lab (SPL)is a young but very ambitious research and development department with over 50 people on-board, including PhD’s, open source activists, book authors, talented engineers, and interns. The primary, but not the only, goal of the Laboratory is to invent new technologies, software product, methods, and design principles in the area of software development business continuity, which includes code quality control and DevOps. Besides that, the laboratory is an active advocate of open source, creating own projects and investing into emerging products from the public market.”


2.1 Responsibilities

∙ Optimize and improve algorithms of resource scheduling on virtual machine, tensorflow/spark job services.
∙ Design and verify the optimization algorithms
∙ Design the strategy to implement the algorithm in working environment

2.2 Position requirements

Basic Requirements
Education background
Master, PhD. Degree or above in Mathematics, Computer Science, Operation Research

Work experience
Strong mathematical modeling and algorithm development ability in the field of optimization, specifically in the field of combinatorial optimization, operation research, stochastic control, reinforcement learning, scheduling, genetic programming etc.
Provable skills on programming, like Python/GO/R/Matlab/Java
Ability to do scientific/engineering research both as a team member and as a single player, and quick self-leaning ability.
Knowledge on resource optimization problem in parallel system
Good understanding of Operating systems such as Linux, BSD Unix;

Language (optional)
English – upper-intermediate/advanced; Russian will be a plus

Skill appraisal (optional)
Technical discussions

Professional certifications from third parties (optional)
No special requirement.

Professional knowledge
Having papers presented at conferences in combinatorial optimization, operation research, linear programming, mixed integer linear programming, reinforcement learning and other heuristic optimization algorithms are preferred;


Key Skillset
Professional skills
∙ Experience on Mathematical modelling;
∙ Winner of ACM, Math competitions;
∙ Good knowledge of IaaS, PaaS and other cloud computing technologies;
∙ Experience in Kubernetes prefered;
∙ Good verbal and written communication abilities in English.
