Hi all...   Just about to jump into the world of SDR.. Reading the rtl sdr blog is a good starting point
Try to do some of them if possible for you

That link contains some instruction about installing appropriate software for your OS (windows/linux/osx)
 
There are many tools (GQRX /SDR# / URH (for reverse engineering) / rtl_fm and ...

Gnuradio can also be an advanced approach, i dont recommend to start with that.

If you were stuck at any thing, you could ask again in this group.
And last but not least, it's really really helpful if you have a right anthena for the right job. Otherwise you could just receive normal FM-AM radio, maybe yor car key fob from a very close range and they're not practical.

Firstly Thank you for the reply, Very welcome indeed, I have been combing through that site. But there is so much information, it is a bit daunting. Really could use a Beginners guide, that includes the basics on getting up and running and the best simple software to get started...    So any links and advice it those ares would be very welcome...

One question, Banks work with which signals? Anyone know why they use Parabolic antennas?

My noolec rtl-sdr has suddenly stopped working with sdrsharp and hdsdr yet it continues to work fine with unitrunker.. Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong? (Windows 10 pro x64, noolec Nesdrsmart)
