If a thief has time + privacy that's a deadly combination for you & your bike. 99% of them are looking for weak locks and chains so they can do a quick cut and run. Sawing, torching, using an angle grinder, or anything that takes time and is obviously announcing to the whole world that it's being stolen is very unlikely to happen in front of a grocery store, Walmart, Home Depot, shopping mall, etc. so if you have a strong lock and it's locked in a public place where there's constantly people around you should be OK. Again, NEVER give them time and privacy especially privacy.
