The zero deaths vision acknowledges that even one death on our transportation system is unacceptable and focuses on safe mobility for all road users. This idea was first adopted in Sweden in 1997 as "Vision Zero" and since then has spread around the world.
Zero deaths uses a data-driven and interdisciplinary approach that targets specific areas for improvement and employs proven countermeasures that apply education, enforcement, engineering, and emergency medical services (the "4Es") to implement safety solutions. The zero deaths concept also incorporates basic principles such as broad institutionalization of the safety culture and a safe system approach.
