I've been there. Trust me, it was hell. No matter what variant I flash, global, beta or Chinese. The error always came up. Always! I was never able to unlock the bootloader legally...

In the end got frustrated, bought a cheap deep flash cable, booted up the phone in edl mode and ran a script from 4pda, flashed twrp. And then never looked back to MIUI.
