The US military envisions a future where warfighters have been enhanced by technological advancements, such as mechanical eye that can see parts of the electromagnetic spectrum beyond visible light or neural implants that allow soldiers to control drones and other systems.
DoD researchers believe the military will have "cyborg soldiers" by 2050. But of course there are a lot of questions surrounding this future force.
"In the next 30 years, you're going to need to have to deal with these legal and ethical quandaries, and you're not ready for it," Peter Emanuel, an Army researcher and the lead expert of a DoD study on cyborg soldiers, told Insider, referring to military leadership.
