tyler: Hi all, I shared this yesterday with all HOT staff but wanted each of you to see it as well!Yesterday marked the official closeout of one of our largest ever projects which spanned the past two years:
PhilAWARE. Joji Bonilla and I presented HOT's role as part of the official closing ceremony which included top officials from the Philippines Office of Civil Defense, National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), ED of the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance (AHA Centre), Deputy ED of the Pacific Disaster Center, USAID, and our partners at
mapakalamidad/PetaBencana Joji Bonilla did a great job presenting the field work in Pampanga. What were the results? Well, OSM data provides the foundation for many of the tools and analysis now available to disaster managers using the PhilAWARE system for hazard awareness and response throughout the Philippines. OSM is exposed not only as a base/background layer, but specific features (health facilities, evaluation centers, etc.) can be overlaid and used in routing/analysis. PhilAWARE is only starting to be used, so we expect the real usage and benefits to only be known in the coming months. Even beyond the PhilAWARE platform, there are some early promising use cases of print maps and OSM data by Local Government Units (see quotes in presentation) cc: Awantika Pal Harry Mahardhika M Dana GallatySince so much time has passed since we began the project, I'd like to thank everyone who contributed to it's success, even though many are now in new roles! feye Bry Damasco Sen Roxas Jess Beutler Riley Adityo
